simple-mirrorSometimes, in life, we need a LOT of direction…. WE need to know where we are starting in order to figure out where we are going….

To get from point A to point B – you really need to know the alphabet….  Life doesn’t come with an instruction book but we need reference points to figure things out. SO – the big question is – where are you?  Do you know where you are starting from?  Do you know where you want to go?  Do you like your job?  Would you like better hours?  Would you like more tax deductions?  Would you like to make more money?  YES …. everyone says yes… and why wouldn’t they?  I would say yes…. who isn’t looking for ways to do all those things?

I am a firm believer in network marketing and mlm companies for building businesses.  I know very wealthy people all over the country that literally tell their kids they have to join an MLM and build it up to a certain level. They have to run it like a business…. help people… and make a profit.  Their kids learn the the ropes with a minimal investment into the legitimate world of networking marketing.  Here are a couple of new companies to view -Rain Nutrition and Boresha Coffee and Tea.    Both companies have killer health and wellness benefits and the doctors behind the companies are even better.  NOW — why would these masters of industry have their kids join these companies?  To quote a friend of mine, “Because I want my kids to be able to run a company before they take over for me!”   WOW… that’s a powerful statement for the industry.  I have performed well in this industry because I like to help people and I know how to build a successful team.  I am currently working with the two companies I mentioned before.  They are new… and very powerful for income production and I KNOW what it takes in this industry.  Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki and Warren Buffet are all major backers of the network marketing industry…. do you know more than they do?  What are we all missing out on?

It’s simple….. You have to know where you are…. to get where you want to go.  You have to realize it’s a game of inches.  You have to realize it’s not easy but easier than anything you have done before.  Success is easier than failure.  You have to go for it…. why not?

Your Business Card is Worthless…

That’s right, I said it. Your business card is stinking worthless. Right now it’s sitting in either the trash somewhere or in a big pile of other business cards never to be found again. The business card can be a great tool for your business. It’s your calling card, but you must make it interesting enough to keep and make the folks who get it ACT! Too many businesses simply have the standard: Name, Address, Fax, Cell, Logo, Name, Email, Tag-line and Website.

And nothing more. Now, this is the basics that you need. It’s basically your name, rank and serial number. There is no direct response. No offer or call to action. The whole purpose of your business card is to get someone to contact you or ACT! The problem is that most people don’t give them a reason to. They just have the impression of: I am here when you need me. The business card is more than a piece of paper with your contact information, it’s a tool in your marketing arsenal. Why not ask them to act?

I have an idea for you. It’s going to seem so obvious, simple and easy, you will probably wonder why you have never taken advantage of it. Ready? Use the backside of your card to make an offer or call to action. Bam! Have you ever thought to take advantage of the back of the card? In my business, I get hundreds and hundreds of business cards. 99.9% of them don’t take advantage of this space.

Great idea, now what do I put there? Well, as I stated earlier, your business card is a marketing tool. Why not put a drive to your website, or online newsletter promotion? How about give them access to a free report or information from your business via the internet or pre recorded conference call? Offer a free trial. Put a big fat coupon there. The options are endless. The point is to drive them to ACT! How could you change your business card to become a more effective tool?

Emerald_City_3-300x225I was talking to someone on the phone about business a few years back and they asked me, “It just sounds too good to be true – what’s the catch?”  Ya know… I feel sorry for people that are so beaten down by life and business and whatever else in their lives – that they can only look for the negative and the gotchas.

You haven’t lived life or been in business very long if you have been screwed over or failed or know someone that has failed.  That’s life… WINNERS get up and keep going.  Frank Sinatra said it best – “Dust yourself off… Start all over again!”

Back to the question at hand: What was the catch?  Off of the top of my head I told the man – the only catch is – this is a business like any other business.  YOU have to run it as such and with any business comes problems.  It’s not going to run smoothly all the time.  You are going to have issues pop up left and right and all over the place and it’s up to you to make it work.  I also told the man – call 10 businesses from the phone book right now… ask the owner, if you can get the owner, if they ever run into problems or things go REALLY wrong sometimes? Go ahead… and call me back when you are done.

NONE of those business owners will ever say – it’s smooth as silk… we never have problems… and… if they do… WE WOULD BUY THEIR BUSINESS ASAP… hahaha.  The reality is – nothing runs smoothly and problems are all around us.  It’s up to us to solve those problems and move on.  Profits go to the problem solvers.  Not the quitters.

This got me thinking about business and life. There isn’t an exact yellow brick road to follow. Every business is different and will face their own set of problems. Business is full of ups and downs and twists and turns. There is no exact path to follow to get you to the emerald city.

The journey we are taking is hardly the yellow brick road. We may set out in the light with hope and joy but eventually our path always seems to lead us to the woods, shrouded with a low lying mist. –John Eldredge

think1-225x300That sounds crazy right? No one likes to admit it… but… there it is… What’s in it for me???  Just a month or so ago, I was shopping for a computer. I went to several locations and talked to several people. I noticed the same sales and marketing mistakes at all of the locations. These stores could spout off all of the great features and how one computer was faster than the other, but they didn’t focus on the one thing that mattered to me most: WHAT IT COULD DO FOR ME. Why didn’t they ask me what I was going to be doing with it? Why didn’t they ask me what I wanted to accomplish with it?

Consumers today do not care about features of your product. They care about benefits and how those features make them feel. They care about how the features are going to benefit their lives. Does it make them happier, more productive, sexier etc. Honestly, they only care about themselves!!!  Right or Right???

Stop selling features and start selling benefits. To help you get started, here is an example:

Feature: 500 Gig hard drive.

Benefit: With a 500 Gig hard drive you will never lose those family memories of your son playing baseball again. Or with a 500 Gig hard drive you’ll never run out of space for your music or movies.

You want the benefits to paint a picture in the person’s mind about your product. You want them to see themselves using the product and it making their life easier, better, more productive etc. By selling benefits over features you are hitting areas that matter to that individual person… and above all – it connects them on an emotional level with your product or service.

I love when businesses get creative in advertising. One way they do this is through fusion marketing. What is it? Fusion marketing is where you blend related businesses, products and customers in a marketing effort. Basically, you can use each other’s resources to help make sales. You might use another company’s list of customers to market your goods to them. So for example: If you are a wedding photographer, you could do fusion marketing with wedding planners, bakeries and more. It’s easy and effective. Gamestop recently pulled some interesting fusion marketing with Movie Tavern during the release of Harry Potter’s new movie (sorry this is a bit late, forgot to post it). On opening night, Gamestop came into the theaters and passed out free prizes and demoed the Harry Potter video game right before the movie started. Brilliant. A tip of the hat to you Gamestop. What kinds of fusion marketing efforts could you do with your business to make more sales?

The other day I spoke with a friend who was having a hard time financially. This person, was working himself to death and never seemed to improve his situation. He would work harder and harder only to see his finances get smaller everyday. He was complaining to me how much he hated being poor.

So I asked him what he was doing to improve his finances. He gave me excuse after excuse. Saying how it just wasn’t in the cards for him. His boss was a jerk. He didn’t have money, energy or time to change anything. He blamed his situation on everything but the one root cause: HIMSELF.

There are millions of people like him in this world. They go around thinking that the only thing for them is hard work and more poverty. The truth is that these same people are carrying within them untold fortunes of wealth that is beyond their wildest dreams. Their thinking has shut them off to this abundant supply and it gets buried deep within them never to be explored. If you constantly think you will be poor all of your life, you will be. Wealth cannot come to a person who doesn’t search for it or who thinks they cannot have it. It reminds me of a man who steps on the hose while watering his garden without realizing it. Water was readily available to him but only one thing was at fault, the man himself was pinching the hose and limiting the water flow.

You are your limitations. Your life is the excuses you allow yourself to believe. Like attracts like. If you believe you will be poor you will be. If you believe you will be rich you will find a way to get there.
