Time is one of your most precious assets in your arsenal to greatness. In business and life you need to find time to create, plan, and do in order to become a success. Sometimes in our hectic schedules, there are days when you just couldn’t get everything done.
One of the biggest reasons this happens is due to the constant noise that is bombarding us and sucking up our time. Noise like facebook, twitter, email, people, and T.V. steal your profits right out from under you. It’s not that these things are necessarily bad, but you must learn to safe guard your work time. Do you really need to know that on facebook Susie says she went to the gym? Do you really care that Timmy is twittering his every move? What is the point? Where does it take you? Is your life any better by knowing this?
Here’s a cool trick I learned from the legendary Lee Milteer (www.milteer.com), ask yourself: What Is The Profit In This? Lee taught me to question where I was spending my time and whether or not it brought me closer to my goals. Personally, I framed this statement and have it right next to my computer. Every time I start wasting time on facebook, it glares at me and helps keep me focused. I ask myself “what is the profit in this?” How much profit does answering that survey add to my bank account? What is the profit in having a meeting to determine when other meetings are going to be? Zero. Know how much your time is worth and use that figure to determine if you have time for Mafia Wars or to waste time with internet video.
