People do things based on their hierarchy of their values. You never have time/money for things that rank lowest on your value scale, but you always have time/money for whatever ranks highest. It’s interesting to me that some people will say they want something, but won’t do what it takes to get there. Recently, I spoke with a woman that said she wanted to get started in a business for herself to make more money. She was excited about starting, but didn’t have the start up money. Week after week she told me she was almost ready but it just kept dragging out longer and longer. It was always something new going on and always some golden excuse as to why she couldn’t get started. Every week she would say she would have it by next Saturday, then when Saturday would come, it was back to next Saturday. Before long a few months had passed and she was no better off than she was before. The business really wasn’t on her list of priorities. It wasn’t high on her hierarchy of values. A few days ago she came back to me said, “I’m sorry I really want to get started, but I just don’t have time or the money.” She always seemed to have money to go out on the town, see great movies, buy cool stuff and spend time partying, but never had the time/money to actually do something worthwhile for her future – especially building a business for herself. Her priorities were completely screwed up. I mean – Here she was telling me how much she needed a change in her life, but she wasn’t willing to do what it took to get there. The scariest thought here is this: This woman can literally fast forward her life 1-3-5 years… and guess what???? NOTHING will be different and she will always be broke wanting more! WOW – always wanting more but having no self discipline to do anything about it. NO BELIEF. NO POWER. NO HOPE.

If you want to do something great, it has to be high on your hierarchy of values and become a priority. You have to find your unbreakable “WHY”. The reason you will never ever quit till you get where you need to be! Otherwise, you’ll never get there —- WORSE yet…. you will never start.

I hate saying it, but there are a lot of people out there living a life to simply…… exist. They live to get by and get through the next day… while their dreams and lives remain unfulfilled. For some reason that is enough for them. I truly believe that we should exist for a much bigger reason. We should have a great purpose deep down inside that MUST be filled. Our own individual thing to master, move and stake our claim. Not to just get to next week’s paycheck and “to get by.” I mean – Shouldn’t life mean more than that. When we were kids… we didn’t want to just get by…. we wanted to RULE the world. FIND YOUR “WHY” again!!!

I’m not saying that everyone should go out and build a massive company or do some incredible feat. Greatness can be defined in many ways. I don’t necessarily mean money either. We shouldn’t be living for the weekend—- should we??? We should work to find our why in life. Our purpose for what we are supposed to do on this planet. Have you ever asked yourself what your “why” is? then…. ask…. IS IT BIG ENOUGH??

When you were little – you had such grandiose dreams and great aspirations. We all wanted to be astronauts and we were told to either shoot for the stars, be realistic, or to go to school… get a job… get our gold watch in 60 years…. hahaha. We thought we could do or become anything NO MATTER what anyone said. Somehow along the way, many of us settled for mediocrity. We lost our why and haven’t acknowledged it since. We lost our passions and we settled for the ground floor…… when we could have soared through the clouds….

What happened to those dreams of greatness? What happened to our “why”? What’s your life about? What impact do you want to have on our world? How will your life be remembered by those around you? What would people say about your life after you are gone?

Find your “why” again. Don’t live your life asleep. Don’t be a walking zombie. You don’t want to wake up one day and realize you lost “it” entirely.

You have a masterpiece inside you. One unlike anything that has ever been created, or ever will be. And remember: If you go to your grave without painting your masterpiece, it will not get painted. No one else can paint it. Only you. – Gordon Mackenzie
